Home Screen Technologies Limited ("HomeScreen," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect your Personal Data in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
This Policy applies to all users of our Services, including Landlords/Property Managers ("Landlords") and Prospective Tenants ("Tenants"). Our role is that of a Data Controller for the Personal Data we collect to provide our Services.
Important: This policy applies to all users of the HomeScreen platform, including landlords, tenants, and property managers.
2. Personal Data We Collect
We collect various types of Personal Data to provide and improve our Services:
For Prospective Tenants
Identity Data
Full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), and copies of your identification documents.
Contact Data
Email address, phone number(s), current and previous residential addresses.
Employment Data
Employment status, occupation/job title, employer's name and contact information (email).
Financial Data
Monthly income range, payslips, bank statements, account transaction history (for up to 3 years), active loans or debt information. We access this data via secure third-party APIs (like Mono and Okra) with your explicit consent.
Rental History Data
Name and contact details (phone and email) of previous landlords and their feedback regarding your tenancy.
Guarantor Data
Your guarantor's name, contact details, relationship to you, and their ID document. You must have your guarantor's permission to provide this information.
For Landlords
Identity and Contact Data
Full name, email address, phone number.
Property Data
Details of the properties you list for verification, including address and rental terms.
For Referees (Previous Landlords, Employers, Guarantors)
Identity and Contact Data
Name, phone number, email address.
Response Data
Your responses to our verification requests.
Technical Data
IP address, browser type, device information, and usage data collected via cookies and similar technologies when you interact with our website.
3. How We Use Your Personal Data and Our Lawful Basis
We only use your Personal Data when the law allows us to. Our lawful bases for processing under the NDPA include:
Consent
We rely on your explicit consent to:
- • Process your verification application, which includes collecting all categories of data listed above.
- • Access your financial data via secure third-party APIs.
- • Contact your employer, previous landlords, and guarantors for verification via automated means (Email and WhatsApp).
- • Send you direct marketing communications (if you opt-in).
Contractual Necessity
We process your data to fulfill our contract with you, i.e., to provide the verification Services you requested (as a Tenant by paying the fee) or are using (as a Landlord by using the platform).
Legal Obligation
We may process your data where it is necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.
Legitimate Interests
We may use your data for our legitimate interests, such as for improving our Services, preventing fraud, and for administrative purposes, provided your fundamental rights do not override these interests.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your Personal Data. We may share your data with the following parties only for the purposes outlined in this policy:
Landlords
We share the final Verification Report of a Tenant with the specific Landlord who requested the verification for their property.
Third-Party Service Providers (Sub-processors)
We use trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services, including:
- • Payment Processors: Paystack, for securely processing verification fees.
- • Financial Data Aggregators: Okra, Mono, for secure identity and financial verification.
- • Communication Platforms: WhatsApp Business API providers and email service providers, for contacting referees.
- • Cloud Hosting Providers: For secure data storage on their servers.
These providers only have access to the data necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to protect it in line with NDPA standards.
Legal Authorities
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or other governmental or law enforcement authority or to establish or defend our legal rights.
5. Data Security
We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to prevent your Personal Data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed. These measures include:
Encryption
Encryption of data in transit (using TLS/SSL) and at rest.
Access Controls
Strict access controls and role-based permissions so only authorized personnel can access sensitive information.
Regular Assessments
Regular security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and updates to our systems.
6. Data Retention
We will only retain your Personal Data for as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or reporting requirements. After this period, your Personal Data will either be deleted or anonymized.

(The "right to be forgotten"), subject to our legal obligations to retain certain information.

Of your data in certain circumstances.

To the processing of your data for certain purposes.

At any time where we are relying on consent to process your data. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew your consent.

9. International Data Transfers
While we operate in Nigeria, some of our third-party service providers (e.g., cloud hosting) may be located outside of Nigeria. Where we transfer your Personal Data out of Nigeria, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring that the transfer is to a country deemed adequate by the NDPC or that appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
